Regarding the 2010 action plan pertaining to the implementation of the 1995 resolution on the Middle East, initial positive steps have been taken through the appointment of Under-Secretary of State Jaakko Laajava of Finland as facilitator and the designation of Finland as host Government for the 2012 conference.

In that context, States parties welcomed the appointment by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the co-sponsors of the 1995 Resolution, in consultation with the States of the region, of Mr. Jaakko Laajava (Finland) as the facilitator, as well as the designation of Finland as the host Government for the 2012 Conference on the establishment of a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction.
