Deputy Prime Minister Ecevit's visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with other high-level Turkish officials on the above-mentioned occasion, in the context of the special relations that exist between the two countries, demonstrates Turkey's continuing commitment to the security and well-being of the Turkish Cypriot people.

56. Mr. PAPADOPOULOS (Cyprus) replied that the secessionist entity which styled itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and which was recognized by no State except Turkey, had been condemned by the Security Council in resolutions 451 (1983) and 550 (1984).
56- السيد بابادوبولوس (قبرص) ردَّ قائلاً إن الكيان الانفصالي الذي هو جمهورية قبرص الشمالية التركية والذي لا تعترف بوجوده أي دولة باستثناء تركيا، أدين من طرف مجلس الأمن في قراريه 451 (1983) و550 (1984).

The Greek Cypriot representative in an effort to marginalize the Turkish Cypriot side appears oblivious to the fact that under the good offices mission of the Secretary-General its negotiating partner is the Turkish Cypriot side and that, despite their usurpation of the title of the " Government of Cyprus " , the Turkish Cypriot people have equal sovereign rights in Cyprus, the embodiment of which is the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
ويبدو أن ممثل القبارصة اليونانيين، سعيا منه إلى تهميش الجانب القبرصي التركي، قد أغفل أن شريكه في التفاوض هو، بفضل بعثة المساعي الحميدة التي اضطلع بها اﻷمين العام، الجانب القبرصي التركي وأن الشعب القبرصي التركي، بالرغم من اغتصاب القبارصة اليونانيين للقب " حكومة قبرص " ، يتمتع في قبرص بنفس الحقوق السيادية المتجسدة في جمهورية قبرص الشمالية التركية.

At the outset, I wish to remind the Greek Cypriot side which depicts the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as " occupied areas " or " illegal entity " that the only occupation in Cyprus is the 35-year-old usurpation and continued occupation by the Greek Cypriot side of the seat of government of the bi-national Republic of Cyprus established under international treaties in 1960.
قبل كل شيء، أود أن أذكﱢر الطرف القبرصي اليوناني، الذي يصف جمهورية قبرص الشمالية التركية بأنها " مناطق محتلة " أو " كيان غير قانوني " بأن الاحتلال الوحيد في قبرص هو الاغتصاب والاحتلال المتواصل من جانب الطرف القبرصي اليوناني لمقعد حكومة جمهورية قبرص الثنائية القومية المنشأة بموجب معاهدات دولية في ١٩٦٠.

to the Secretary-General Upon instructions from my Government, I have the honour to refer to the letter dated 22 July 1997 (A/51/948-S/1997/580 and Corr.1) addressed to you by the Greek Cypriot representative at the United Nations in connection with the visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus of His Excellency Mr. Bülent Ecevit, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, accompanied by a delegation of ministers and other officials.
بناء على تعليمات من حكومتي، يشرفني أن أشير إلى الرسالة المؤرخة ٢٢ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٧ A/51/948-S/1997/580) و Corr.1(، الموجهة إليكم من الممثل القبرصي اليوناني لدى اﻷمم المتحدة، فيما يتصل بالزيارة التي قام بها إلى جمهورية قبرص الشمالية التركية سعادة السيد بولنيت إيشفيت، نائب رئيس وزراء تركيا، وبرفقته وفد من الوزراء وعددا آخر من المسؤولين.

55. Mr. ESENLI (Observer from Turkey) explained that he did not wish to politicize the discussions in a conference which was seeking to reduce the human suffering caused by landmines, but that he was obliged, following the statement made by the representative of Cyprus, to reaffirm certain truths in the interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which was not represented at the Conference.
55- السيد إيسينلي (المراقب عن تركيا) أوضح أنه لا يود إضفاء طابع سياسي على مناقشات مؤتمر يسعى للتخفيف من حدة ما يعانيه البشر من جراء الألغام الأرضية ولكنه يرى نفسه مضطراً بعد مداخلة ممثل قبرص إلى إعادة بعض الحقائق إلى مجراها خدمة لمصلحة جمهورية قبرص الشمالية التركية التي لا يوجد من يمثلها في المؤتمر.
