11.10 The objective of the subprogramme is to support Governments and other partners of the Centre in the adoption of socially integrated, inclusive, accessible, transparent, participatory and accountable urban governance and management, at the national and local levels, with a view to ensuring sustainable urban development.

The number of Governments and cities working with UN-Habitat to promote environmentally sustainable urban development and safer cities also increased in 2006-2007, with 28 Governments and 165 cities working with UN-Habitat, compared with 21 Governments and 60 cities in 2004-2005.
