Article 5 establishes a general obligation for States to cooperate for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

3. Recognizes that the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity can significantly contribute to disaster risk reduction and to reducing the adverse impacts of climate change, including by adding resilience to fragile ecosystems and making them less vulnerable;

Such organizations as ITTO, the World Bank, UNEP and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources - World Conservation Union have prepared guidelines for integrating the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity into the management of all forest lands, including production forests.
وقامت منظمات من قبيل المنظمة الدولية لﻷخشاب المدارية والبنك الدولي وبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة والاتحاد الدولي لحفظ الطبيعة والموارد الطبيعية - الاتحاد العالمي لحفظ الطبيعة، بوضع مبادئ توجيهية لدمج مقتضيات حفظ التنوع البيولوجي واستخدامه بصورة مستدامة في إدارة جميع أراضي الغابات، بما فيها الغابات المنتجة.

We recognize the important role of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, an international agreement that stands at the intersection between trade, the environment and development, promotes the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, should contribute to tangible benefits for local people and ensures that no species entering into international trade is threatened with extinction.
203 - ونسلم بأهمية دور اتفاقية التجارة الدولية بأنواع الحيوانات والنباتات البرية المهددة بالانقراض()، وهي اتفاق دولي يمثل نقطة التقاء بين التجارة والبيئة والتنمية ويعزز حفظ التنوع البيولوجي واستخدامه بصورة مستدامة ومن المفروض أن يسهم في تحقيق منافع ملموسة للسكان المحليين ويكفل عدم تداول أي أنواع مهددة بالانقراض في التجارة الدولية.

ونشجع الاستثمارات، عن طريق وضع حوافز وسياسات ملائمة تدعم حفظ التنوع البيولوجي واستخدامه بصورة مستدامة وإصلاح النظم الإيكولوجية المتدهورة، بما يتسق ويتواءم مع اتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي والالتزامات الدولية الأخرى في هذا المجال.
