The Council reiterates the European Union's readiness to play a leading role in strengthening stability in the region, and recalls the European Union's commitments contained in the conclusions of the European Council of 14 December 2007, as well as the agreement on Joint Action establishing a police and rule of law mission under the European Security and Defence Policy and appointing a European Union Special Representative in Kosovo.

تلقيت اليوم الرسالة المرفقة الموجهة من السيد خافيير سولانا، الممثل السامي للسياسة الخارجية والأمنية المشتركة للاتحاد الأوروبي، يحيطني فيها علما بالقرار الذي اتخذه الاتحاد الأوروبي بنشر بعثة لسيادة القانون في كوسوفو ضمن الإطار المنصوص عليه في القرار 1244 (1999)، وبالقرار الذي اتخذه الاتحاد الأوروبي بتعيين ممثل خاص للاتحاد الأوروبي لكوسوفو.

On 18 February, I received a letter from Javier Solana, the European Union's High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, informing me of the decision of the European Union to deploy a rule of law mission within the framework provided by resolution 1244 (1999), and to appoint a European Union Special Representative for Kosovo who would, among other functions, coordinate the work of the European Union in Kosovo.
