4. In his letter to the President of the Security Council of 10 August 2012 (S/2012/618), the Secretary-General noted that the cessation of the use of heavy weapons and a reduction in violence by all sides sufficient to allow UNSMIS to implement its mandate had not been achieved.

In his letter to the President of the Security Council dated 26 February 2004 (S/2004/182), the Secretary-General informed the Council of the financial difficulties faced by the Special Court for Sierra Leone with regard to its operation beyond 1 July 2004 and, inter alia, indicated that the Council might wish to invite him to bring the matter to the attention of the General Assembly.

On the basis of a letter dated 25 August 2003 from the President of Guinea-Bissau, addressed to the Secretary-General requesting the extension of UNOGBIS, the Secretary-General, in his letter to the President of the Security Council dated 11 November 2003 (S/2003/1096) proposed that the mandate of UNOGBIS be extended until 31 December 2004.
58 - واستنادا إلى رسالة مؤرخة 25 آب/أغسطس 2003 وجهها إلى الأمين العام رئيس غينيا - بيساو لطلب تمديد البعثة، اقترح الأمين العام، في رسالته إلى رئيس مجلس الأمن المؤرخة 11 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2003 (S/2003/1096)، تمديد ولاية البعثة حتى 31 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2004.

50. The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region of Africa was established on the basis of the proposal of the Secretary-General contained in his letter to the President of the Security Council dated 12 December 1997 (S/1997/994) and the latter's reply of 19 December 1997, (S/1997/995) expressing the Council's support of the proposal.

Requests the Secretary-General to take the necessary measures, in this exceptional instance, to re-appoint the current members of the Panel of Experts as referred to in his letter to the President of the Security Council dated 27 June 2006 (S/2006/438) and to make the necessary financial and security arrangements to support the work of the Panel;

٤٤ - وفي ١٢ أيلول/سبتمبر ١٩٩٧، اقترح اﻷمين العام في رسالته إلى رئيس مجلس اﻷمن)٩( أن يقدم خلال النصف الثاني من أيلول/سبتمبر التقرير الذي طلبه المجلس في قراره ١١٠٨ )١٩٩٧( المؤرخ ٢٢ أيار/ مايو ١٩٩٧، وذلك بالنظر إلى جولة هيوستن القادمة وكيما تؤخذ نتائج اجتماعاتها في الاعتبار ويُضطلع بالتقييم المناسب للحالة.

Secondly, she wished to know whether the Secretary-General had abandoned the idea of creating a post of Deputy Secretary-General, since there was no mention of it in his letter to the President of the General Assembly (A/51/829) and, if not, what level and functions would be assigned to the post and what the occupant's relationship would be with Member States, Under-Secretaries-General and Assistant Secretaries-General.
ثانيا، تود أن تعرف ما إذا كان اﻷمين العام قد تخلى عن فكرة إنشاء منصب نائب لﻷمين العام، وذلك لعدم وجود أي إشارة إليه في رسالته إلى رئيس الجمعية العامة (A/51/829)، وإذا لم يكن اﻷمر كذلك فما هو المستوى والمهام التي ستسند إلى المنصب وما هي علاقة شاغله بالدول اﻷعضاء ومنصبي وكيل اﻷمين العام واﻷمين العام المساعد.
