10. The Population Division of the United Nations Secretariat organized an expert group meeting on below- replacement fertility at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 4 to 6 November 1997. The purpose of the meeting was to get the view of experts on how fertility levels may evolve in countries which are already exhibiting fertility below replacement.

2. Requests the Population Division of the United Nations Secretariat and United Nations Population Fund to explore ways and means, such as the establishment of an internationally accessible electronic database, to facilitate the exchange of information among all relevant actors on various levels concerning best practices and lessons learned in the implementation of the Programme of Action;

The Economic and Social Council, in its resolution 1999/10 of 26 July 1999, requested the Population Division of the United Nations Secretariat to continue its work on population growth, structure and distribution, including levels, trends, determinants and policies, while giving due attention to issues related to, inter alia, youth, ageing, migration and data collection.
