Following the elections in November 2001, six new permanent judges assumed their duties: Judges Wolfgang Schomburg (Germany), Theodor Meron (United States of America), Amin El Mahdi (Egypt), Carmel A. Agius (Malta), Alphonsus Martinus Maria Orie (Netherlands) and O-Gon Kwon (Republic of Korea).
