In case victims of violent crimes -- such as those crimes resulting in serious body injuries or death -- are unable to obtain compensation from the offender (for example, because the latter is unknown or it can reasonably be predicted that he or she does not have the means to provide compensation), they can seek compensation from the State, by applying to the National Commission for the Protection of victims of violent crimes.

In addition, the juvenile unit of the police force gives support to family and juvenile courts, and a victim support unit has been established to assist child victims of violent crime.
