During the period from 1 August 2007 to 31 July 2008, the Ethics Office received 344 requests for advice on a wide range of ethics-related concerns; as illustrated in figure VI, this represents a more than 100 per cent increase from the corresponding number for the previous reporting cycle (162 requests).

The Committee shall transmit, as it may consider appropriate, to the specialized agencies, funds and programmes of the United Nations and other competent bodies, reports from States parties in order to address a request or indication of a need for technical advice or assistance contained therein, along with the Committee's observations and recommendations, if any, on these requests or indications.

4.3 If, following the receipt of a request for advice or complaint submitted by a staff member in accordance with subparagraph (c) or (e) of section 3 above, the respective Ethics Office does not, within forty-five days, formally consider the request, the staff member may then refer the matter in writing to the Chairperson of the United Nations Ethics Committee.
4-3 إذا لم يقم مكتب الأخلاقيات المختص، في غضون خمسة وأربعين يوما من تلقيه طلبا للمشورة أو شكوى مقدمة من موظف وفقا للفقرة الفرعية (ج) أو (هـ) من المادة 3 أعلاه، بالنظر في الطلب رسميا، يجوز للموظف عندئذ أن يحيل المسألة خطيا إلى رئيس لجنة الأمم المتحدة للأخلاقيات.

In addition, as outlined in section 4.3, " if, following the receipt of a request for advice or complaint submitted by a staff member in accordance with subparagraph (c) or (e) of section 3 above, the respective Ethics Office does not, within forty-five days, formally consider the request, the staff member may then refer the matter in writing to the Chairperson of the United Nations Ethics Committee.
