83. This force, which under apartheid consisted of 11 police formations with a staff of 124,000 and 26,000 at the centre and provinces respectively, has now been restructured into a single force for the entire country with a single command structure.
٣٨- وقوة الشرطة هذه، التي كانت تتكون في ظل الفصل العنصري من ١١ فرقة للشرطة تضم ٠٠٠ ٤٢١ و٠٠٠ ٦٢ عنصر في المركز والمحافظات على التوالي، قد أعيدت هيكلتها اﻵن وأصبحت قوة وحيدة للبلد بأجمعه تخضع لقيادة واحدة.

5. Several representatives mentioned the positive changes in removing barriers to apartheid in South Africa, but drew the attention of the Commission to the need to continue to take measures to improve the situation of women and children living under apartheid.
٥ - أشار عدة ممثلين إلى التغييرات الايجابية في ازالة حواجز الفصل العنصري في جنوب افريقيا، غير أنهم استرعوا انتباه اللجنة إلى ضرورة الاستمرار في تحسين حالة النساء واﻷطفال الذين يعيشون في ظل الفصل العنصري.

The interim constitution includes a Bill of Fundamental Human Rights which, inter alia, guarantees equality of race and gender; freedom of speech, assembly and movement; the right to vote; the right to fair trial; the right not to be exposed to torture and cruel or inhuman punishment; and the right of those dispossessed under apartheid to seek restitution.

The Constitution for the Transitional Period guarantees fundamental rights, which include, inter alia, equality of race and gender; freedom of speech, assembly and movement; the right to vote; the right to a fair trial; the right not to be exposed to torture and cruel or inhuman punishment; and the right of those dispossessed of land under apartheid to seek restitution.
