In many cases where contact with the extended family is ruptured and options become scarce, children flee and end up living on the streets.
غير أنه بعد عقدين من الحرب أصبحت الأسر والمجتمعات غير قادرة على مواكبة التزايد المستمر في أعداد الأطفال الأيتام المنفصلين عن أسرهم ضمن بيئة تفتقر للخدمات الأساسية والبنى التحتية وفي الكثير من الحالات حيث تتعثر العلاقات مع الأسرة الممتدة وتقل الخيارات فإن الأطفال غالباً ما يهربون وينتهي بهم الأمر بالعيش في الشوارع.
