At its 2nd meeting, on 30 September 1997, the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) of the General Assembly decided to hold a general debate covering agenda item 18, entitled “Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples”, including the question of Western Sahara.
