31. Mr. Emadi (Islamic Republic of Iran) said that women faced various manifestations of violence, ranging from trafficking, domestic violence, discrimination and sexual abuse to situations arising from foreign occupation and armed conflict.

Mr. Emadi (Islamic Republic of Iran) said that, despite the commitments made at Copenhagen and reaffirmed in subsequent United Nations conferences, young people without privilege and wealth still struggled to get a foothold in the labour market, while older persons enjoyed less and less security after a lifetime's work.

Mr. Emadi (Islamic Republic of Iran) expressed the support of his country for the Durban Review Conference and welcomed the High Commissioner's call for commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He announced that Iran would make a voluntary contribution for the organization of the seminar on human rights and cultural diversity that would soon be held in Geneva.
