my delegation believes that, in keeping with the principle of equitable geographical representation, and in consideration of Asia's being the most populous continent with the largest regional grouping of 55 members in the United Nations, a Secretary-General from Asia would be both timely and appropriate.
وتمشياً مع مبدأ التمثيل الجغرافي المنصف، ونظراً لأن قارة آسيا أكثر القارات اكتظاظاً بالسكان، ويوجد فيها أكبر عدد من التجمعات الإقليمية التي تضم 55 عضواً في الأمم المتحدة، فإن وفدي يعتقد أن اختيار أمين عام من قارة آسيا سيكون جيد التوقيت ومناسباً.

Whatever the causes of the current stalemate, my delegation believes that it is pertinent to ask, where do we go from here? How do we get out of this impasse? What is the way forward?
ومهما تكن أسباب هذا المأزق، فإن وفدي يعتقد أن من المناسب أن نسأل، إلى أين نتجه الآن؟ وكيف نخرج من هذا المأزق؟ وأين هو الطريق إلى الأمام؟

As for the regional commissions, my delegation believes they should prioritize their fields of activity and accelerate their efforts to restructure in order to enhance their general efficiency and effectiveness.
أما فيما يتعلق باللجان اﻹقليمية، فإن وفدي يعتقد أنه ينبغي لها أن تضع أولويات في ميادين نشاطاتها وأن تعجل بجهودها في سبيل إعادة التشكيل حتى تعزز كفاءتها وفعاليتها بصفة عامة.

Noting the Secretary-General's view that the agenda of the General Assembly is in need of some rationalization, my delegation believes that the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly, including the rationalization of the agenda, should be conducted through an informal open-ended working group, as reflected in resolution 47/233.
واذ نلاحظ أن اﻷمين العام يرى أن جدول أعمال الجمعية العامة يحتاج إلى بعض الترشيد، فإن وفدي يعتقد أن إعادة تنشيط عمل الجمعية العامة، بما في ذلك ترشيد جدول اﻷعمال، ينبغي أن يتم عن طريق فريق عامل مفتوح العضوية غير رسمي كما هو وارد في القرار ٤٧/٢٣٣.

Furthermore, my delegation believes that we have done all we can do at the representative level, and that the only way we can make progress is to take it to a higher level, so that our political leaders can review what we have done and make a decision on how to move forward.

وبينما نحترم حق كل منطقة إقليمية ودون أقليمية في تقرير الطريقة التي توزع بمقتضاها المقاعد غير الدائمة بين أعضائها، فإن وفدي يعتقد بأن السبيل الوحيد لضمان تمثيل عادل وأوسع نطاقا للعضوية يتمثل في اعتماد المناطق اﻹقليمية ودون اﻹقليمية لنظام منصف للتناوب.

Since the number of mines laid indiscriminately throughout the world every year is rising, not falling, my delegation believes that it is not enough merely to intend to eliminate these weapons. For our children to be able to walk freely and peacefully in the world, all States must take action.
وحيث أن عدد اﻷلغام التي تزرع سنويا بشكل عشوائي في أنحاء العالم كافة يتزايد ولا يتناقص، فإن وفدي يعتقد بأن النوايا وحدها لا تكفي ﻹزالة تلك اﻷسلحة بل يجب على جميع الدول أن تقوم بإجراءات حتى يستطيع أطفالنا أن يمشوا بحرية وسلام في العالم.

Given the broad scope and complexity of the maritime issues, my delegation believes that the institutional capacity of the Organization should be enhanced continuously to provide States and international organizations with the assistance necessary to ensure the uniform and consistent application of the Convention and the two implementation Agreements.
ونظرا لاتساع نطاق وزيادة تعقيدات القضايا البحرية فإن وفدي يعتقد أن القدرة المؤسسية للمنظمة يجب تحسينها باستمرار كي توفر للدول والمنظمات الدولية المساعدة الضرورية لضمان التوحيد والاتساق في تطبيق الاتفاقية والاتفاقين الخاصين بالتنفيذ.

While the specifics and technical details of these proposals will have to be referred to and discussed in the Fifth Committee and reported back to the Assembly, my delegation believes it is essential that policy discussion on key proposals and recommendations take place in plenary meetings at an appropriate time and in an appropriate form.

While some would ascribe the lack of concrete results in the Conference on Disarmament to its rules of procedure, my delegation believes that the resistance by some to pursue in good faith and bring to a conclusion negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects, under strict and effective international control, is a larger obstacle faced by the international community.

For all these reasons, my delegation believes that the United Nations should support all efforts to assist the countries in the Sahel that share these cross-border challenges and seriously consider the situation in the Sahel, including the recommendations of the assessment mission.

If we are to carry out the commitment we made in the World Summit Outcome, my delegation believes that the discussions on human security should be conducted on a regular basis in the General Assembly plenary, and to this end requests the Secretary-General to submit a comprehensive report on further developments pertaining to human security as an important input for a future debate in the Assembly.

In the face of the general stalemate in the field of arms control and disarmament, my delegation believes that the time has come for all States to demonstrate the necessary political will to make progress in this area, especially in confronting the common challenge posed by the continued existence and proliferation of nuclear and other arms around the globe.
وأمام هذا الجمود العام في ميدان الحد من الأسلحة ونزع السلاح، فإن وفدي يعتقد أن الوقت قد حان أمام جميع الدول كي تبرهن على توفر ما يلزم لديها من إرادة سياسية لإحراز تقدم في هذا المجال، وخاصة في التصدي للتحدي المشترك الذي يخلقه استمرار وجود وانتشار الأسلحة النووية وغيرها من أسلحة أخرى في جميع أرجاء العالم.

Although the Journal provides a modest amount of information, such as the date and the topic at hand, my delegation believes that if the report also contained some basic information, including, if possible, a brief summary of the discussion, it would greatly help Member States to keep track of all the informal consultations in the previous year.

" On paragraph 7 of the text on the Middle East, my delegation believes that this language undermines the agreements reached between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, as the representative of the Palestinian people, which aim to achieve a just settlement of the refugee problem, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions, through direct negotiations to resolve all outstanding final status issues.
