His delegation hoped that the Committee would continue to deliberate on the report of the Group of Legal Experts on ensuring the accountability of United Nations experts while on mission, which was essential to the continued examination by the Organization of an issue that was indispensable to the promotion of the rule of law at the national and international levels.

At the Twenty-first Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting, the Group of Legal Experts on Liability reported that there was lack of clarity with regard to a number of matters, including the definition of damage, the actions to be taken by operators, the reimbursement of costs, unrepaired damage and the process for the settlement of disputes.82
١٤٠ - وفي الاجتماع الاستشاري الحادي والعشرين ﻷطراف معاهدة أنتاركتيكا، أفاد فريق الخبراء القانونيين المعني بالمسؤولية أن الغموض يشوب عددا من المسائل، منها تعريف اﻷضرار واﻹجراءات التي يجب أن يتخذها المستغلون، وسداد التكاليف، واﻷضرار التي لم يتم إصلاحها، وعملية تسوية النزاعات)٨٢(.

2. The report of the Group of Legal Experts on ensuring the accountability of United Nations staff and experts on mission with respect to criminal acts committed in peacekeeping operations (A/60/980) was transmitted to the General Assembly in August 2006 and presented to the Chairman of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations for that Committee's consideration.

The report of the Group of Legal Experts on ensuring the accountability of United Nations staff and experts on mission with respect to criminal acts committed in peacekeeping operations, contained in document A/60/980, provided a sound basis for negotiations; such negotiations should take place soon.
وأضاف أن تقرير فريق الخبراء القانونيين المعني بضمان مساءلة موظفي وخبراء الأمم المتحدة الموفدين في بعثات عمّا يُرتكب من أفعال إجرامية في عمليات حفظ السلام الوارد في الوثيقة (A/60/980)، يمثل أساساً سليما للمفاوضات.

The report of the Group of Legal Experts on ensuring the accountability of United Nations officials and experts on mission with respect to criminal acts committed in peacekeeping operations (see A/60/980), made a number of recommendations designed to overcome obstacles that exist in holding such personnel accountable for crimes committed during peacekeeping operations.
