As this is my first occasion to be taking the floor in the Conference, I would like, Mr. President, to assure you of the full support of my delegation and myself as we seek to move forward in our work and tackle the substantive items of our agenda.
ولما كانت هذه هي المرة الأولى التي آخذ فيها الكلمة في هذا المؤتمر، أودّ، سيادة الرئيس، أن أؤكّد لكم دعمي ودعم وفد بلادي الكاملين، ساعين للمضي قدما في عملنا ولتناول البنود الموضوعية من جدول أعمالنا.

Since this is the first time that I am taking the floor in this Assembly, I would like to express to Secretary-General Kofi Annan our highest consideration and support for his activity, especially for his efforts in promoting reform of and a new image for the United Nations.

ولا أريد أن أدلي ببيان طويل وموضوعي لأني مقيد بالقاعدة الشفوية القائلة إن كلمة الوداع تعادل " صفحة واحدة عن كل سنة " ، ولكن بما أنها المرة الأولى والأخيرة التي آخذ فيها الكلمة في جلسة عامة، فإني أظن أنه يجوز لي الخروج عن القاعدة الآنفة الذكر.
