3. The present document reports on the implementation of the Accra Accord in the period since UNCTAD XII. To facilitate consideration by the Trade and Development Board, it is structured along the lines of the sub-themes presented in the Accra Accord.

8. In addition to the Accra Declaration, UNCTAD XII adopted a Plan of Action (contained in the Accra Accord (UNCTAD/IAOS/2008/2)), which contains the following decisions with respect to competition issues:

UNCTAD periodically reports to the Trade and Development Board on activities in favour of small island developing States, a denomination that was cited six times by member States in the Accra Accord, an outcome of the twelfth session of the Conference (2008).
ويقدم مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية (الأونكتاد) تقارير دورية إلى مجلس التجارة والتنمية عن الأنشطة المضطلع بها لصالح الدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية، وهو مسمى أشارت إليه الدول الأعضاء في اتفاق أكرا ست مرات، كإحدى نتائج الدورة الثانية عشرة للمؤتمر (2008).

Pursuant to the mandate contained in the Accra Accord (paras. 91 and 98), UNCTAD should continue to play a key role - with appropriate coordination with other international and regional actors, including with relevant international commodity bodies - in addressing the trade and development problems associated with the commodity economy.

22. In pursuance of the Accra Accord mandates related to work on commodities, the secretariat has bolstered its work in this area, in view of the sector's importance to much of the developing world.
22- وعملاً بالولايات المنصوص عليها في اتفاق أكرا المتصلة بالعمل المتعلق بالسلع الأساسية، قامت الأمانة بدعم أعمالها في هذا المجال بالنظر إلى أهمية هذا القطاع بالنسبة إلى كثير من أنحاء العالم النامي.

27. Delegations emphasized the relevance of the Accra Accord mandate and welcomed the initial steps taken by UNCTAD to implement it.
27 - وأكدت الوفود مدى أهمية الولاية المنصوص عليها في اتفاق أكرا ورحبت بالخطوات الأولية التي اتخذها الأونكتاد تنفيذاً لهذه الولاية.

Advocacy by the Special Representative had led to the inclusion of issues relating to children affected by armed conflict in the peace agreement on Liberia signed in Accra in August 2003.
وأسفرت جهود الدعوة التي بذلها الممثل الخاص للأمين العام المعني بالأطفال والصراع المسلح عن إدماج قضايا الأطفال والصراع المسلح في اتفاق أكرا للسلام بشأن ليبريا الموقع في آب/أغسطس 2003.

Other major provisions of the Accra Accord in respect of technical cooperation include recommendations regarding improvements in the management of technical cooperation, fund-raising, and UNCTAD participation in the United Nations system-wide coherence.
