In its resolution 6/1, the Conference recognized that technical assistance was essential in order to achieve universal and effective implementation of the Convention and, in its resolution 6/4, endorsed the recommendations adopted by the Working Group of Government Experts on Technical Assistance at its meeting held on 17 October 2012.

Nine representatives of Member States attended the meeting as observers, pursuant to the decision of the extended Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organized Crime taken at its meeting held in Vienna on 29 June 2011.

A briefing about the status of preparations for the Thirteenth Congress and action to be taken in that regard by the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at its twenty-third session was given to the extended Bureau at its meeting held during the twenty-second session of the Commission and another will be provided at its meeting held during the twenty-third session.

An advisory meeting was organized with stakeholders from all governorates in order to expand the circle of participation. After a discussion of the national legislation, draft amendments were submitted to the Cabinet, which debated and approved them at its meeting held on 5 December 2006 and submitted them to the House of Representatives.
