It was noted that international drug strategies could be effective only if reliable data were available to enable accurate assessment of progress in combating the world drug problem.

Also urges Member States to identify, on the basis of the results of the process to review the declarations and measures adopted by the General Assembly at its twentieth special session, future priorities and areas requiring further action, as well as goals and targets to be set in countering the world drug problem beyond 2009;
34 - تحث أيضا الدول الأعضاء على أن تقوم، استنادا إلى نتائج عملية استعراض الإعلانات والتدابير التي اعتمدتها الجمعية العامة في دورتها الاستثنائية العشرين، بتحديد الأولويات المستقبلية والمجالات التي تتطلب مزيدا من العمل، وكذلك الغايات والأهداف التي ينبغي وضعها للاستمرار في مكافحة مشكلة المخدرات العالمية بعد عام 2009؛

We believe that the political statement is an important instrument for raising awareness and engaging decision makers, media, youth and the public in combating the world drug problem.
ونحن نعتقد أن اﻹعلان السياسي أداة هامة لزيادة التوعية، وإشراك صانعي القرار، ووسائط اﻹعلام، والشباب، وعامة الجمهور في مكافحة مشكلة المخدرات العالمية.

Let us simply follow his wise advice if we want to produce tangible results in combating the world drug problem and if we want to create at the beginning of the next century a drug-free world.
فلنتبع ببساطة هذه النصيحة الحكيمة، إذا أردنا أن نحقق نتائج ملموسة في مكافحة مشكلة المخدرات العالمية وإذا أردنا أن ننشئ فـــي بدايــــة القرن المقبل عالما يخلو من المخدرات.
