The 2005 World Summit in its outcome subsequently embraced this proposal and underlined the importance of debt sustainability to the efforts to achieve national development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals, recognizing the key role that debt relief can play in liberating resources that can be directed towards activities consistent with poverty eradication, sustained economic growth and sustainable development.
وقد تبنّى مؤتمر القمة العالمي في نتائجه لاحقاً هذا المقترح وأكّد أهمية القدرة على تحمل الديون بالنسبة للجهود الرامية إلى تحقيق الأهداف الإنمائية الوطنية، بما فيها الأهداف الإنمائية للألفية، مع التسليم بالدور الرئيسي الذي يمكن أن يؤديه تخفيف عبء الديون في تحرير الموارد التي يمكن توجيهها نحو الأنشطة المتسقة مع أهداف القضاء على الفقر وتحقيق النمو الاقتصادي المطرد والتنمية المستدامة.
