The above is clearly manifested in the Council of Europe's Convention for the Protection of individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data to which Malta is a State party and in Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (the European Data Protection Directive) which was transposed into Maltese law by means of the Data Protection Act.
