Since it is my first time addressing this body, allow me to congratulate Mr. Jan Kavan on his election to the presidency of the fifty-seventh session of the General Assembly.
ولما كانت هذه هي المرة الأولى التي أخاطب فيها هذه الهيئة، فاسمحوا لي أن أهنئ السيد يان كافان على انتخابه رئيسا للجمعية العامة في دورتها السابعة والخمسين.

Allow me at the outset to extend my warmest congratulations to Mr. Jan Kavan on his well-deserved election to the presidency.

The Group of African States thanks President Kavan for his outstanding efforts to restore the General Assembly to its position in the forefront of the United Nations.

I am very pleased at the outset of the fifty-seventh session of the General Assembly to congratulate Mr. Jan Kavan on his election to the presidency both on my own account and on behalf of the highest authorities of my country, as well as to congratulate all the members of the Bureau.
ويسعدني كثيرا، ونحن في مستهل الدورة السابعة والخمسين للجمعية العامة، أن أهنئ السيد يان كافان على انتخابه لمنصب الرئاسة، وذلك بالأصالة عن نفسي وباسم أعلى سلطات بلدي، وأن أهنئ أيضا جميع أعضاء المكتب.
