Important lessons to be learned from the recent conflicts in Africa and Asia might be an appropriate field of research for the University for Peace.
وقد تكون الدروس الهامة المستفادة من الصراعات اﻷخيرة في أفريقيا وآسيا ميدان بحث مناسب لجامعة السلم.

Given the means, the University for Peace can greatly contribute to achieving this objective.

The University for Peace cannot avoid this reality. Its intellectual tasks today must reflect the new types of conflict and the factors that give rise to the crises and tensions of today's world.

The text notes with appreciation that by agreement with the University for Peace, the Government of Uruguay in 1997 established a World Centre for Research and Information on Peace as regional sub-headquarters of the University for Peace for South America.
ويلاحظ النص مع التقدير بأنه بموجب اتفاق مع جامعــــة السلم، أنشأت حكومة أوروغواي في عام ١٩٩٧ مركزا عالميـا للبحث والمعلومات المتعلقة بالسلم كمقــــر فرعـي إقليمــــي لجامعة السلم في أمريكا الجنوبية.

Despite the unique character of the University for Peace and its noble aspirations, it has undergone over the past few years a reduction in its activities, mainly due to financial constraints.

Considering with appreciation that the Government of Uruguay established in 1997 in the city of Montevideo a World Centre for Research and Information on Peace, by agreement with the University for Peace, which gave that Centre the status of regional sub-headquarters of the University for Peace for South America,

We consider this to be a splendid birthday gift to the University for Peace, which was established by resolution 35/55 on 5 December 1980 and has thus just celebrated its fifteenth birthday precisely as the United Nations is celebrating its own fiftieth anniversary.
إننا نعتبر ذلك هدية عيد ميلاد رائعة لجامعة السلم التي أنشئت بمقتضى القرار ٣٥/٥٥ المؤرخ ٥ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٨٠، ومن ثم تكون قد احتفلت للتو بعيد ميلادها الخامس عشر، بالضبط مع احتفال اﻷمم المتحدة بالذكرى الخمسين ﻹنشائها.

In the face of the threats that continue to harm human security, the Haitian delegation renews its support for the University for Peace and its officials and, further, urges the General Assembly to firmly support draft resolution A/54/L.30, designed to strengthen that institution and thus allow it to carry out its fundamental mission.

Uruguay, whose basic principles of foreign policy are founded on respect for international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes, and which was one of the first to accept the binding jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, all of which makes it a truly peace-loving country, is gratified by the great honour done it with the establishment of the regional sub-headquarters of the University for Peace on its soil.
