Article II of the Convention defines genocide as an act committed " with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such " .
وتعرِّف المادة الثانية منها الإبادة الجماعية بأنها أي من الأفعال المرتكبة " بقصد التدمير الكلي أو الجزئي لجماعة قومية أو إثنية أو عرقية أو دينية، بصفتها هذه " .

69. The description of atrocities committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group as " ethnic cleansing " particularly seems to be a euphemism.
٦٩ - وعلى ما يبدو فإن وصف اﻷعمال التي تُرتكب بقصد التدمير الكلي أو الجزئي لجماعة قومية أو إثنية أو عنصرية أو دينية على سبيل " التطهير العرقي " هو وصف مضلل بصفة خاصة.

]٤ - يقصد بعبارة " بقصد التدمير الكلي أو الجزئي لجماعة قومية أو إثنية أو عنصرية أو دينية " النية المحددة في التدمير الكلي لجماعة قومية أو إثنية أو عنصرية أو دينية أو تدمير جزء كبير منها بتلك اﻷفعال المحددة في التعريف.

However, the Penal Code prohibits the dissemination of information containing threats or expressing contempt for a national, ethnic or other such group of persons with allusion to race, colour, national or ethnic origin, religious beliefs or sexual orientation.

There are clear cases where rape, which undoubtedly constitutes " serious bodily or mental harm " , is perpetrated under a responsible command as a systematic policy alongside or as part of a larger policy that is " committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such " .
وثمة حالات واضحة يرتكب فيها الاغتصاب - الذي يشكل دون شك " ضررا بدنيا أو عقليا جسيما " - تحت قيادة مسؤولة لسياسة منتظمة الى جانب سياسة أوسع ترتكب بقصد التدمير الكلي أو الجزئي لجماعة قومية أو إثنية أو عنصرية أو دينية، بصفتها هذه، أو كجزء من تلك السياسة اﻷوسع.

This intent is set out in the introductory language of Article II, namely, " the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such " .

Under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, in order for an act to be considered genocide it must be committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.
فبموجب اتفاقية منع جريمة الإبادة الجماعية والمعاقبة عليها، لا بد للعمل الذي يراد اعتباره إبادة جماعية أن يكون قد ارتُكب بقصد التدمير الكلي أو الجزئي لجماعة قومية أو إثنية أو عرقية أو دينية().
