77. Further demonstration of the country's commitment was the establishment in 1999 of the human Rights Commission of Malaysia, an independent body empowered to investigate complaints of human rights violations and mandated to raise awareness of human rights through education.

9. WGAD recommended that the Government strengthen the status, powers and functions of the human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) in accordance with the principles relating to the status of national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights (Paris Principles).

1. The human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) commended the Government's initiative to establish a technical sub-committee to study the feasibility of becoming party to ICCPR, ICESCR, CAT and ICERD calling on the Government to accelerate the process of acceding to the remaining six core international human rights treaties.
1- أثنت لجنة حقوق الإنسان في ماليزيا على مبادرة الحكومة بإنشاء لجنة فرعية فنية لدراسة جدوى الانضمام إلى العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق المدنية والسياسية والعهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية واتفاقية مناهضة التعذيب والاتفاقية الدولية للقضاء على جميع أشكال التمييز العنصري وناشدتها التعجيل بعملية الانضمام إلى المعاهدات الرئيسية الدولية الست المتبقية في ميدان حقوق الإنسان(2).
