Besides those international human rights documents, Turkmenistan adhered in 1992 to the basic four Geneva Conventions of 1949 for the Protection of War Victims and the two Additional Protocols to the Conventions of 1977.

At the recent International Conference for the Protection of War Victims, held in Geneva, 160 States had adopted a declaration by consensus stating their determination to ensure the effectiveness of international humanitarian law and to take resolute action against States that violated that law.
٥٦ - وواصل حديث قائلا إن ١٦٠ دولة اعتمدت، في المؤتمر الدولي لحماية ضحايا الحرب الذي عقد مؤخرا في جنيف، اعلانا بتوافق اﻵراء ينص على اعتزامها تأمين فعالية القانون الانساني الدولي واتخاذ اجراء حاسم ضد الدول التي انتهكت ذلك القانون.

٢٣ - لقد سبق أن قلت في خطابي الى المؤتمر الدولي لحماية ضحايا الحرب الذي عقد مؤخرا هنا في جنيف إن معاناة البشرية من الحربين العالميتين أفضت الى بروز بعض القيم القانونية واﻷخلاقية اﻷساسية التي تفرض حماية الفرد، بما في ذلك حقه في التماس اللجوء والتمتع به.

78. All States that have not yet done so are encouraged to ratify the four Geneva Conventions for the Protection of War Victims of 12 August 1949 and the two Additional Protocols thereto of 1977.
78 - ويتعين تشجيع جميع الدول التي لم تصدق بعد على اتفاقيات جنيف الأربع لحماية ضحايا الحرب المؤرخة 12 آب/أغسطس 1949 والبروتوكولين الاختياريين الإضافيين لها لعام 1977 أن تقوم بذلك.
