10. The CHAIRMAN informed the Committee that the Group of Eastern European States had nominated Mr. Tomka (Slovenia) for the post of Chairman of the Working Group on the United Nations Decade of International Law.

Miss SHAHEN (Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) said that the main purposes of the United Nations Decade of International Law were to enhance the authority of international law and to promote respect for its principles.
٦٥ - اﻵنسة شاهين )الجماهيرية العربية الليبية(: قالت إن اﻷهداف الرئيسية لعقد اﻷمم المتحدة للقانون الدولي هي تعزيز سلطة القانون الدولي وتشجيع الاحترام لمبادئه.

2. On 28 November 1990, the General Assembly adopted resolution 45/40, entitled " United Nations Decade of International Law " , to which was annexed the programme for the activities to be commenced during the first term (1990-1992) of the United Nations Decade of International Law.
٢ - وفي ٢٨ تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ١٩٩٠، اعتمدت الجمعية العامة القرار ٤٥/٤٠، المعنون " عقد اﻷمم المتحدة للقانون الدولي " ، الذي أرفق به برنامج لﻷنشطة يبدأ خلال الفترة اﻷولى )١٩٩٠-١٩٩٢( لعقد اﻷمم المتحدة للقانون الدولي.

Mr. LAVOYER (Observer for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)) said that the main objectives of the United Nations Decade of International Law were closely associated with his organization's own efforts to promote, disseminate and bring about respect for international humanitarian law.
٧ - السيد لافواييه )المراقب عن لجنة الصليب اﻷحمر الدولية(: قال إن اﻷهداف الرئيسية لعقد اﻷمم المتحدة للقانون الدولي تتصل اتصالا وثيقا بالجهود التي تبذلها منظمته لتعزيز القانون اﻹنساني الدولي ونشره وجعله موضع الاحترام.

The most recent resolution concerning the Programme was adopted by the General Assembly on 11 December 1995 (resolution 50/43).1 The encouragement of the teaching, study, dissemination and wider appreciation of international law has also been considered as one of the main purposes of the 1990-1999 United Nations Decade of International Law.2
وأحدث قرار اتخذته الجمعية العامة بشأن البرنامج في ١١ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٥ )القرار ٥٠/٤٣()١(. كما اعتبر تشجيع تدريس القانون الدولي ودراسته ونشره وزيادة تفهمه أحد المقاصد الرئيسية لعقد اﻷمم المتحدة للقانون الدولي ١٩٩٠-١٩٩٩)٢(.

31. Mrs. Aguiar (Dominican Republic), speaking on behalf of the member countries of the Central American Integration System and associated States, said that promoting the teaching, study, dissemination and wider appreciation of international law was one of the main objectives of the United Nations Decade of International Law.
