The main purpose of the Washington Group is, therefore, the promotion and coordination of international cooperation in the area of health statistics focusing on disability measures suitable for censuses and national surveys.

The second objective of the Washington Group will be to begin exploring and discussing sets of measures, related to the general measures, to be used as components in surveys.

The second priority of the Washington Group is to recommend one or more extended sets of survey items to measure disability, or principles for their design, to be used as components of population surveys or as supplements to specialty surveys.
وتتمثل الأولوية الثانية لفريق واشنطن في التوصية بوضع مجموعة موسعة أو أكثر من بنود الدراسات الاستقصائية من أجل قياس الإعاقة، أو المبادئ المعتمدة في تصميمها، بقصد استخدامها كمقومات الدراسات الاستقصائية السكانية أو كملحقات للدراسات الاستقصائية المتصلة بالخصائص.

10. The fourth meeting of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics was held in Bangkok from 29 September to 1 October 2004 and hosted by ESCAP and the Thai National Statistical Office.
