11. Reiterates its request to the Secretary-General to make the fullest possible use of facilities and equipment at the United Nations Logistics Base at Brindisi, Italy, in order to minimize the costs of procurement for the Force;

12. The overall decrease of $99,000 is mainly attributable to the fact that the mission was able to obtain engineering equipment from the United Nations Logistics Base at Brindisi, which therefore obviates the need to hire such equipment and operators commercially for the maintenance of the patrol track.

The Joint Logistics Centre maintains close contact with the Joint Operations Centre in the office of the Force Commander, to facilitate the provision of Logistics and technical support for daily peacekeeping operational needs, including requirements for emergencies.

I. Introduction 1. The budget for the maintenance of the United Nations Logistics Base at Brindisi, Italy, for the period from 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2003 was set out in the report of the Secretary-General of 14 March 2002 (A/56/871) and amounted to $16,178,400 gross ($14,796,300 net).

The Committee was also informed that during the period 239 vehicles (199 light, 20 medium and 20 heavy) had been sent from UNMIK stock to the Logistics Base at Brindisi for transfer to UNAMA.
