The following decisions, adopted by the Preparatory Committee for the special session of the General Assembly entitled " World Summit for Social Development and beyond: achieving social development for all in a globalizing world " , are brought to the attention of the General Assembly:

The Preparatory Committee for the special session of the General Assembly entitled " World Summit for Social Development and beyond: achieving social development for all in a globalizing world " decides to transmit the text of the draft final document annexed to the present decision to the General Assembly at its twenty-fourth special session for further consideration.

13. The Office of the High Commissioner was active in the preparations for the twenty-fourth special session of the General Assembly, entitled " World Summit for Social Development and beyond: achieving social development for all in a globalizing world " .

Mrs. Bird (Antigua and Barbuda): It is with a deep sense of honour and privilege that I address this body on the occasion of the twenty-fourth special session of the United Nations General Assembly, entitled " World Summit for Social Development and beyond: achieving social development for all in a globalizing world " .

In connection with its consideration of agenda item 8, the Ad Hoc Committee had before it the report of the Preparatory Committee for the Special Session of the General Assembly entitled " World Summit for Social Development and Beyond: Achieving Social Development for all in a globalizing world " on its second and resumed second session (A/S-24/2 and Add.1 and Add.2 (Parts I-III)).
5 - وكان معروضا على اللجنة المخصصة، فيما يتصل بنظرها في البند 8 من جدول الأعمال، تقرير اللجنة التحضيرية للدورة الاستثنائية للجمعية العامة المسماة " مؤتمر القمة العالمي للتنمية الاجتماعية وما بعده : تحقيق التنمية للجميع في عصر العولمة " عن أعمال دورتها الثانية ودورتها الثانية المستأنفة (A/S-24/2 و Add.1وAdd.2 (Parts I-III).

The responsibility of Governments to develop comprehensive strategies and programmes to support volunteering is explicitly recognized for the first time in the outcome document of the twenty-fourth special session of the General Assembly, entitled " World Summit for Social Development and beyond: achieving social development for all in a globalizing world " (General Assembly resolution S-24/2, annex).
وفي الوثيقة الختامية للدورة الاستثنائية الرابعة والعشرين للجمعية العامة المعنونة " مؤتمر القمة العالمي للتنمية الاجتماعية وما بعده: تحقيق التنمية للجميع في عصر العولمة " (قرار الجمعية العامة دإ-24/2، المرفق)، أقر صراحة للمرة الأولى بمسؤولية الحكومات عن وضع استراتيجيات وبرامج شاملة لدعم العمل التطوعي.
