The Procurement Task Force was initially created for a fixed period of six months under authority of a letter of the Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services dated 12 January 2006 " to address fraud and corruption in the procurement function in the United Nations, both at Headquarters and in the various peacekeeping missions " (see A/62/272, summary).
