Under the terms of operative paragraph 12 of resolution 2005/51, the Commission requested OHCHR to facilitate the attendance of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people at the fourth annual session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, to be held at United Nations Headquarters in May 2005.

9. Also decides, in the light of the first session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and of the mandate of the Forum as established in Economic and Social Council resolution 2000/22 of 28 July 2000, to request Mr. Alfonso Martínez to prepare a working paper on ways and means of developing cooperation between the Working Group and the Permanent Forum, for submission to the Working Group at its twentyfirst session;

Noting with satisfaction the holding of the first session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, a subsidiary organ of the Economic and Social Council, held in New York in May 2002, and recalling that the mandate of the Permanent Forum consists of discussing indigenous issues within the mandate of the Council relating to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights,

Requests the Commission on Human Rights to endorse the participation, for one week, of the Chairperson-Rapporteur of the Working Group at the fifth session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in 2006, as recommended by the Working Group (see E/CN.4/2005/26, para. 120), to enable him to present the report of the Working Group on its twenty-third session, and to recommend to the Economic and Social Council to approve such participation;

Requests the Human Rights Council to endorse the participation, for one week, of the ChairpersonRapporteur of the Working Group at the sixth session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in 2007, as recommended by the Working Group in its report (A/HRC/Sub.1/58/22, para. 59), to enable him to present the report of the Working Group on its twentyfourth session;
