Noting that the international residual mechanism should be a small, temporary and efficient structure whose functions and size would diminish over time, the Advisory Committee further recommended that the Secretary-General, in his next report to the Assembly, should provide comparative cost information for a temporary and a permanent structure for the new facility.

With respect to space requirements and the common space allowance per person, the Advisory Committee was informed, upon enquiry, that the gross area per person in the office building planned for the new facility is roughly 20.5 square metres, or 220 square feet, which is in line with the individual ratios used by the capital master plan.

Noting that the Assembly, in its resolution 66/240, had approved 44 posts for the continuous functions of the Arusha branch of the Mechanism, the Advisory Committee urged the Secretary-General to ensure that the final space requirements for the new facility reflected the actual number of staff needed to perform the functions of the Mechanism.
وأشار إلى أن الجمعية العامة قد وافقت في قرارها 66/240، على 44 وظيفة لوظائف مستمرة لفرع أروشا التابع للآلية، حثت اللجنة الاستشارية الأمين العام على التأكد من أن الاحتياجات من الحيز النهائي للمرفق الجديد تعكس العدد الفعلي للموظفين اللازمين لأداء مهام الآلية.

9. Following the signing of the lease for the new data centre at the end of June 2009, the design of the fit-out of the racks for the ICT equipment in the new facility was completed and telecommunication links to the new facility ordered.

The Advisory Committee notes that these staffing estimates are for planning purposes only, and recommends that the General Assembly request the Secretary-General to ensure that the final space requirements for the new facility reflect the actual number of staff needed to perform the functions of the Mechanism (see also A/66/807, para. 12).

However, it has preliminarily been agreed that the eventual contribution of the United Nations in a future biennium would not exceed Euro100,000 (around $130,000), or 4 per cent of the total contribution of the VBOs towards the construction costs, owing to the limited potential use of the new facility by the United Nations.

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 66/240 B, a second report of the Secretary-General was submitted during the first part of the resumed sixty-seventh session of the Assembly (A/67/696), providing detailed information on the key decision points regarding the conceptual design, project plan and overall cost estimate of the planned new facility, as well as efforts to reduce the duration of the project.
٦ - وعملا بقرار الجمعية العامة 66/240 باء، قدم الأمين العام تقريرا ثانيا خلال الجزء الأول من الدورة السابعة والستين المستأنفة للجمعية (A/67/696)، عرض فيه معلومات مفصلة عن نقاط اتخاذ القرار الأساسية فيما يتعلق بالتصميم النظري للمرفق الجديد المزمع بناؤه وخطة المشروع الخاصة به وتكلفته الإجمالية التقديرية، وكذلك عما يُبذل من جهود لتقليص مدة المشروع.

2. Paragraphs 3 to 6 of the report of the Secretary-General on the construction of additional conference facilities at the Vienna International Centre (A/61/166) pointed out that the financial ceiling in the agreement with the Government of the host country for the new facility was Euro52.5 million, with the United Nations and the three other occupants of the Centre contributing Euro2.5 million, payable in the biennium 2008-2009.
