وقد صُممت الخيارات كافة باعتبارها تدابير لمنع نشوب النزاع تهدف إلى تبيان الالتزام الثابت للمجتمع الدولي بالتوصل إلى حل سلمي للنزاع على الحدود بين إثيوبيا وإريتريا، وذلك ريثما يُهيأ المناخ المواتي لتطبيع العلاقات بين البلدين.

Ms. Lock (South Africa), speaking on behalf of the African Group, said that the issue under consideration namely, the peaceful resolution of the border dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria in a manner that ensured stability in the subregion, promoted sustainable economic development and guaranteed the security and welfare of the populations concerned, was very important not only to the African Group but to all Member States.

The European Union welcomes and fully supports the efforts of the OAU to bring a negotiated settlement to the border conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia and we urge both parties to do their utmost towards a peaceful solution.
ويرحب الاتحاد اﻷوروبي بجهود منظمة الوحدة اﻷفريقية الرامية الى تحقيق تسوية، عن طريق التفاوض، للنزاع على الحدود بين إريتريا وإثيوبيا. ونحث الطرفين على بذل قصارى جهدهما في سبيل حل سلمي.

In a similar vein, I am encouraged that Eritrea is now engaging in an effort to arrive at a peaceful resolution to the border conflict and normalize relations with Djibouti.
