وينبغي لﻷطراف الاستشارية في معاهدة أنتاركتيكا أن تعقد سنويا حلقات دراسية وندوات بشأن هذا الموضوع، على أساس ما تم الاتفاق عليه في قمة ريو.

My delegation wishes to express its appreciation to the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties for providing the Secretary-General with a report of their eighteenth meeting.

5. To ensure the observance of the provisions of the Treaty, Consultative Parties have the right to designate observers to carry out inspections in all areas of Antarctica.
٥ - ولكفالة التقيد بأحكام المعاهدة، يحق لﻷطراف الاستشارية أن تعين مراقبين للاضطلاع بأعمال التفتيش في جميع مناطق أنتاركتيكا.

My delegation welcomes the involvement of United Nations specialized agencies and programmes such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), pursuant to the invitation of the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties to participate in the Eighteenth Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting, held in Kyoto.
ويرحب وفدي بإشراك وكالات اﻷمم المتحدة المتخصصة وبرامجها مثل برنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة ومنظمة الطيران المدني الدولية والمنظمة البحرية الدولية، بدعوة من الاجتماع الثامن عشر لﻷطراف الاستشارية لمعاهدة أنتاركتيكا، المعقود في كيوتو.

In this regard, we are pleased to note that the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties have agreed to invite the Executive Director of UNEP to attend future meetings of the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties in order to assist in the substantive work.
وفي هذا الشأن، يسرنا أن نلحظ بأن اﻷطراف الاستشارية لمعاهدة أنتاركتيكا قد وافقت على توجيه الدعوة الى المدير التنفيذي لبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة لحضور الاجتماعات المقبلة لﻷطراف الاستشارية وذلك للمساعدة في العمل الموضوعي.

This year, for the first time in 12 years, we have a consensus draft resolution, and the United Nations will be represented in future sessions of the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties by the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, thus establishing a link between the United Nations and those Consultative Parties.
وفي هذا العام توصلنا ﻷول مرة خلال ١٢ عاما، الى مشروع قرار يحظى بتوافق اﻵراء، وسيمثل اﻷمم المتحدة في الدورات المقبلة لﻷطراف الاستشارية في معاهدة أنتاركتيكا المدير التنفيذي لبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة. وبهذا تتحقق الصلة بين اﻷمم المتحدة وتلك اﻷطراف الاستشارية.

16. Mr. DANKWA (Ghana) stressed, particularly for the benefit of the Consultative Parties to the Atlantic Treaty, that the international community was not seeking to hinder efforts to gain a better understanding of the continent.
