7.2 The functions of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women include, inter alia:

The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women briefed the Board on steps being taken to secure an individual from within the United Nations system at a suitably senior level to take on the responsibilities of Officer-in-Charge.

8.1 The Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women includes the focal point for women in the Secretariat and the United Nations system and other staff, who are under the supervision of the Special Adviser.

Welcomes the establishment of the ad hoc Inter-Agency Task Force on Gender in Afghanistan under the leadership of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, and encourages Member States to make particular efforts to promote the human rights of women in Afghanistan;
٦ - يرحب بإنشاء فرقة العمل المشتركة بين الوكالات والمخصصة لنوع الجنس في أفغانستان برئاسة المستشارة الخاصة لﻷمين العام لقضايا نوع الجنس والنهوض بالمرأة، ويشجع الدول على بذل جهود خاصة لتعزيز حقوق اﻹنسان للمرأة في أفغانستان؛

40. The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women welcomed all participants on behalf of the Secretary-General and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to INSTRAW and emphasized the unique importance of the session, given the current situation affecting the Institute.

In order to assist States to accelerate their actions towards ratification or accession, letters have been sent to those Governments which are not States parties to the Convention (see annex IV) by the Secretary-General and by the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women.
