In that respect, the GEF Assembly had responded to the call made by the Summit and decided to declare the Facility's availability to serve as a financial mechanism of the UNCCD, should the Conference of the Parties so decide at its next session.
وفي هذا الصدد استجابت جمعية مرفق البيئة العالمية للدعوة التي وجهها إليها مؤتمر القمة العالمي للتنمية المستدامة وقررت أن تعلن أن المرفق متاح لأن يكون آلية مالية لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر، إذا قرر مؤتمر الأطراف ذلك في دورته التالية.

Indeed, during its Second Assembly, which ended in Beijing the preceding week, the GEF Assembly had decided to add land degradation and desertification as one of its focal areas. The GEF Assembly had also declared that the Facility was ready to become a financial mechanism of the Convention under article 21 of the Convention itself, should the Conference of the Parties so decide.
وأضاف أن جمعية مرفق البيئة العالمي التي أنهت دورتها الثانية في بيجين في الأسبوع الماضي قررت إضافة تدهور الأراضي والتصحر إلى مجالات التركيز الأساسية لديها، كما أعلنت الجمعية عن استعداد المرفق لأن يكون أداة تمويلية للاتفاقية بموجب المادة 21 من الاتفاقية ذاتها إذا ما قرر مؤتمر الأطراف ذلك.

Although this activity is not included in the proposed programme of work and budget for the biennium 2010 - 2011 set out in documents UNEP/POPS/COP.4/37 and UNEP/POPS/COP.4/37/Add.1, it could be added to the budget and funded through contributions to the Special Trust Fund of the Convention should the Conference of the Parties so decide.
وعلى الرغم من أن هذا النشاط لم يدرج في برنامج العمل المقترح في الوثيقة UNEP/POPS/COP.4/37 والوثيقة UNEP/POPS/COP.4/37/Add.1، إلا أنها يمكن أن تضاف إلى الميزانية وتمول من المساهمات المقدمة إلى الصندوق الاستئماني الخاص بالاتفاقية، إذا قرر مؤتمر الأطراف ذلك.

9. Further, the GEF Assembly confirmed that the GEF shall be available as a financial mechanism of the UNCCD, pursuant to paragraph 21 of the Convention, if the COP should so decide.
9- وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، أكدت جمعية مرفق البيئة العالمية إتاحة مرفق البيئة العالمية كآلية مالية لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر، وفقاً للمادة 21 من الاتفاقية، إذا ما قرر مؤتمر الأطراف ذلك.

Should any adjustments be necessary, UNEP has long experience of the development of such arrangements and has the mandate to ensure that these are established and made operational, should the COP so request.
وإذا نشأت الحاجة إلى إجراء أية تعديلات، فإنه تتوافر لبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة خبرة طويلة في وضع هذه الترتيبات، كما يتمتع البرنامج بولاية ضمان وضع هذه الترتيبات وتنفيذها إذا طلب مؤتمر اﻷطراف ذلك.

2. By its decision 6/COP.6, the COP welcomed the decision of the second GEF Assembly, held in October 2002 in Beijing, China, declaring that the GEF should be available as a financial mechanism of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) if the COP should so decide.
2- ورحب مؤتمر الأطراف في مقرره 6/م أ-6 بالمقرر الذي اتخذته الجمعية الثانية لمرفق البيئة العالمية المعقودة في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2002 في بيجين بالصين، والذي أعلنت فيه أن مرفق البيئة العالمية يجب أن يكون متاحاً كآلية مالية لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر، إذا ما قرر مؤتمر الأطراف ذلك.
