Mr. Maurer (Switzerland) (spoke in French): Switzerland voted in favour of resolution 64/10 for three main reasons.

Mr. Maurer (Switzerland) (spoke in French): Five years ago, we laid the foundation for a peacebuilding structure within the United Nations system.

Ambassador Maurer, stressing the rationale of finding regional solutions to global problems of peace and security, stated that regionalism needs solid global institutions. He underlined that peace/security, development and human rights were strongly interlinked and welcomed the forthcoming creation of a Peacebuilding Commission and a Human Rights Council.
أكد السفير ماورر على الأساس المنطقي الذي بموجبه يتعين إيجاد حلول إقليمية لمشاكل السلام والأمن العالمية، وقال إن الأخذ بالإقليمية يقتضي إنشاء مؤسسات عالمية متينة, وأوضح أن السلم/الأمن، والتنمية وحقوق الإنسان تترابط فيما بينها ترابطا قويا ورحب بالإنشاء المزمع للجنة بناء السلام ومجلس حقوق الإنسان.

During the same period, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the chairpersons of the Burundi configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission, Mr. Peter Maurer and his successor Mr. Paul Seger, as well as Ms. Judy Cheng-Hopkins, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Peacebuilding Support Office, visited Burundi.
