At the same time, if the Lusaka peace talks do not produce the expected positive results soon, the Council may consider taking appropriate action, including action on the future of the Mission.

34. Since my last report, only limited progress has been made at the Lusaka peace talks.
٣٤ - لم يحرز، منذ تقديم تقريري اﻷخير، سوى تقدم محدود في محادثات السلم في لوساكا.

10. Requests the Secretary-General to ensure that the Council is informed of further developments in the Lusaka peace talks and on the military and humanitarian situation in Angola;
١٠ - يطلب أيضا الى اﻷمين العام أن يكفل إحاطة المجلس علما بالتطورات الحاصلة في محادثات السلم في لوساكا والمتعلقة بالحالة العسكرية والانسانية في أنغولا؛

Until the past few days, both sides appeared to have adopted a tactical pause, conducting minor and medium-scale military operations to maintain pressure on each other and reorganizing themselves for launching major offensives should there be no positive outcome from the Lusaka peace talks.
وحتى اﻷيام القليلة الماضية، كان الجانبان يأخذان بنهج تعبوي يقوم على التمهل، حيث اضطلعا بعمليات عسكرية صغيرة ومتوسطة الحجم لمواصلة ممارسة الضغط كل منهما على اﻵخر وإعادة تنظيم نفسهما لشن أعمال هجومية كبيرة اذا لم تسفر محادثات السلم في لوساكا عن أي نتائج ايجابية.

10. Requests the Secretary-General to ensure that the Council is informed of further developments in the Lusaka peace talks and on the military and humanitarian situation in Angola;
١٠ - يطلب الى اﻷمين العام أن يكفل إحاطة المجلس علما بما يستجد من تطورات في محادثات السلم في لوساكا وفي الحالة العسكرية والانسانية في أنغولا؛

3. The agenda item on national reconciliation has been under discussion at the Lusaka peace talks since 31 January 1994.
٣ - وقد ظل بند جدول اﻷعمال المتعلق بالمصالحة الوطنية قيد المناقشة في محادثات السلم في لوساكا منذ ٣١ كانون الثاني/يناير ١٩٩٤.

15. In several previous reports, the Security Council has been informed about my efforts to develop a comprehensive contingency plan in anticipation of major progress in the Lusaka peace talks.
٥١ - وقد تم إبلاغ مجلس اﻷمن في عدة تقارير سابقة بما أبذله من جهود لوضع خطط شاملة للطوارئ توقعا لحدوث تقدم رئيسي في محادثات السلم في لوساكا.

Noting, however, with grave concern the intensification of military operations throughout the territory of Angola which cause extensive suffering to the civilian population, hamper the successful conclusion of the Lusaka peace talks and the effective implementation of the current mandate of UNAVEM II,

13. Requests the Secretary-General to ensure that the Council is informed regularly on the progress of the Lusaka peace talks as well as on the military and humanitarian situation in Angola and to this end requests the Secretary-General to submit a report by 31 July 1994;

12. Requests the Secretary-General to submit to it, as soon as there is progress, and in any case by 30 June 1994, a report on the Lusaka peace talks and on the continued political will of the parties to achieve a lasting peace, with recommendations for the future United Nations presence in Angola;
١٢ - يطلب إلى اﻷمين العام أن يقدم إليـه، بمجــرد أن يتحقــق تقـدم، وعلـى أي حــال قبــل ٣٠ حزيران/يونيه ١٩٩٤، تقريرا عن محادثات السلم في لوساكا وعن استمرار توفر اﻹرادة السياسية لدى الطرفين لتحقيق سلم دائم، مع توصيات بشأن وجود اﻷمم المتحدة مستقبلا في أنغولا؛

Following consideration by the Council of my last report dated 31 March 1994 (S/1994/374) on the United Nations Angola Verification Mission (UNAVEM II), the President of the Council addressed a letter to me dated 14 April 1994 stating the determination of the Council to monitor closely the Lusaka peace talks and asking to be regularly briefed on the matter.
وبعد نظر المجلس في تقريري اﻷخير المؤرخ ٣١ آذار/مارس ١٩٩٤ عن بعثة اﻷمم المتحدة الثانية للتحقق في أنغولا، وجه رئيس المجلس رسالة إليﱠ بتاريخ ١٤ نيسان/أبريل ١٩٩٤ موضحا فيها تصميم المجلس على رصد محادثات السلم في لوساكا رصدا دقيقا ويطلب أن يبقي بانتظام على علم بهذه المسألة.

37. Although it is difficult to be optimistic about the prospects for the Lusaka peace talks, I hope that the Security Council will remain ready, as stated in its recent resolutions, to authorize promptly an increase in the strength of UNAVEM II, if agreement is reached on the outstanding issues.
٣٧ - وبالرغم من صعوبة التفاؤل بشأن آفاق محادثات السلم في لوساكا فإنني آمل أن يظل مجلس اﻷمن على استعداد، على نحو ما ذكر في قراراته اﻷخيرة، لﻹذن بسرعة بزيادة قوة بعثة اﻷمم المتحدة الثانية للتحقق في أنغولا في حالة الوصول الى اتفاق بشأن القضايا المتبقية.

1. The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 903 (1994) of 16 March 1994, paragraph 11 of which requested me to ensure that the Council is kept regularly informed on the progress of the Lusaka peace talks as well as on the military and humanitarian situation in Angola and, to this end, requested me to submit another report by 4 April 1994.
١ - يقدم هذا التقرير عملا بقرار مجلس اﻷمن ٩٠٣ )١٩٩٤( المؤرخ ١٦ آذار/مارس ١٩٩٤، والذي طلب مني في فقرته ١١ ابقاء مجلس اﻷمن على علم بالتقدم المحرز في محادثات السلم في لوساكا بالاضافة الى إعلامه بشأن الحالة العسكرية والانسانية في أنغولا، وطلب مني، لهذا الغرض، تقديم تقرير آخر قبل ٤ نيسان/أبريل ١٩٩٤.

Since my last report to the Security Council of 17 September 1994 (S/1994/1069), the participants in the peace talks in Lusaka have considered the last item on their agenda, namely, the future mandate of the United Nations and the role of the observer States, including the new mechanism for implementing the " Acordos de Paz " and the forthcoming Lusaka Protocol.
٥ - ومنذ تقريري السابق الذي قدمته إلى مجلس اﻷمن في ٧١ أيلول/سبتمبر ٤٩٩١ (S/1994/1069)، نظر المشتركون في محادثات السلم في لوساكا في البند اﻷخير المدرج في جدول أعمالهم، وهو ولاية اﻷمم المتحدة في المستقبل ودور الدول المراقبة، بما في ذلك اﻵلية الجديدة لتنفيذ " اتفاقات السلم " وبروتوكول لوساكا المقبل.
