26. As far as the Darfur political process is concerned, since the peace talks in Sirte, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, in October 2007, my Special Envoy, Jan Eliasson, and his African Union counterpart, Salim Ahmed Salim, have intensified consultations with the Government of the Sudan and the non-signatory movements present in Darfur and Juba with a view to preparing the parties further for the beginning of substantive talks.
