We believe that the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea provides a very good basis for the promotion of cooperation as well as for the prevention or avoidance of conflicts in the seas and oceans, including in the South China Sea area.

1. Regional peace and stability in the South China Sea is an issue of common interest to the ASEAN member States and China.

The most recent is the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, which was signed on 4 November 2002 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
وكان أقرب ما صدر هو الإعلان المتعلق بتصرف الأطراف في منطقة بحر الصين الجنوبي الذي تم التوقيع عليه يوم 4 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2002 في فنوم بنه بكمبوديا.

5. The ASEAN claimant States met in Putrajaya on 6 April 2004 to discuss in detail the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
