The Permanent Mission of the Syrian Arab Republic wishes to provide the following clarification in reply to the Israeli allegations contained in documents S/2003/800, dated 8 August 2003, and S/2003/806, dated 11 August 2003. Those two documents are a total falsification and distortion of the facts and a pathetic attempt by Israel to justify its terrorism and its hostility towards the Lebanese people and its occupation of Arab territories.

ومن ثم فالخط الأخضر هو خط البداية الذي يتم منه قياس مدى احتلال إسرائيل للأرض غير الإسرائيلية؛ وكان منشؤه في عام 1949 كخط للهدنة، ثم أصبح في عام 1967 الخط الذي يتعين على إسرائيل الانسحاب إلى الجانب الإسرائيلي منه، والذي تقع على الجانب غير الإسرائيلي منه الأرض " المحتلة " من قِبل إسرائيل " . It should be noted that the situation of Palestinian prisoners deteriorated even further after the declaration by the Israeli Prime Minister in June of this year of his plans to further " toughen " conditions on the more than 6,000 Palestinian civilians, including at least 280 children and 38 women, as well as 22 elected officials, who continue to be imprisoned or arbitrarily detained by Israel.
وجدير بالذكر أن حالة السجناء الفلسطينيين زادت تدهورا بعد التصريح الذي صدر عن رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي في حزيران/يونيه من هذا العام بأنه ينوي تشديد قسوة الظروف التي يعيش فيها أكثر من 000 6 مدني فلسطيني، منهم ما لا يقل عن 250 طفلا و 38 امرأة، فضلا عن 22 شخصا من المسؤولين المنتخبين الذين لا يزالون مسجونين أو محتجزين تعسفا من قِبل إسرائيل.
