52. The United Nations system continues to provide technical cooperation assistance and advisory services of a professional, impartial and non-commercial nature in the field of mineral resources, at the request of Member States.
٥٢ - وما فتئت منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة تقدم، بناء على طلب الدول اﻷعضاء، المساعدة في مجال التعاون التقني والخدمات الاستشارية ذات الطبيعة الاحترافية والمحايدة وغير التجارية في ميدان الموارد المعدنية.

2. The present report assesses the technical cooperation activities of the United Nations system in the field of mineral resources undertaken since the previous report of the Secretary-General was issued (E/C.7/1996/7).
٢ - ويقيﱢم هذا التقرير أنشطة التعاون التقني التي اضطلعت بها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة في ميدان الموارد المعدنية منذ إعداد التقرير السابق لﻷمين العام (E/C.7/1996/7).

That report paid particular attention to the changes made by the United Nations system in the field of mineral resources in response to Agenda 21.1 It also discussed activities in mineral resource development in areas of privatization, investment promotion, and small-scale and artisanal mining.
وقد أولى ذلك التقرير اهتماما خاصا للتغييرات التي أجرتها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة في ميدان الموارد المعدنية استجابة لجدول أعمال القرن ٢١)١(. وناقش أيضا اﻷنشطة المضطلع بها في تنمية الموارد المعدنية في مجالات الخصخصة وتعزيز الاستثمار والتعدين الصغير النطاق والتعدين الحرفي.

5. The present section provides a brief overview of the several organizations and agencies within the United Nations system that, in accordance with their mandates and areas of specialization, participate in technical cooperation activities in the field of mineral resources. 3/
