4. As a result of the armed conflict, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic is being blockaded and therefore was only linked to the rest of the country by air.

2. As a result of the armed conflict, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic has been under blockade and is linked to the rest of the country only by air.

The continuing aggression by Armenia, the occupation and pillaging of more than 20 per cent of Azerbaijani territory and the presence of approximately one million refugees and internally displaced persons as well as the long-standing economic blockade imposed by Armenia against the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan had placed his country in a difficult economic and social position.

The FFM spoke with numerous people in Lachin town. The vast majority said they were refugees originally from various parts of Azerbaijan (Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Goranboy District, Khanlar District, Yevlach, Terter, and Mardakert/Agdere District and Nakhichevan).

9. During the Soviet period, the territories of Zangezur and Gekchay, parts of Naxçivan and other districts were separated from Azerbaijan and attached to neighbouring Armenia.
