8. The Economic and Social Council, in its resolution 1996/42, strongly reaffirmed that the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of the operational activities of the United Nations system must be enhanced by, inter alia, a substantial increase in their funding and through the full implementation of General Assembly resolutions 47/199, 48/162, 50/120 and 50/227.

Several resolutions have subsequently addressed the three related areas of governance, funding and efficiency and the impact of operational activities for development, and a number of further resolutions have dealt with those three interrelated issues, including in the context of several triennial policy reviews, which commenced in 1980.

As is strongly reaffirmed in paragraph 5 of Assembly resolution 50/120, the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of the operational activities of the United Nations system must be enhanced by a substantial increase in their funding on a predictable, continuous and assured basis, commensurate with the increasing needs of developing countries, as well as through the full implementation of resolutions 47/199 and 50/120.
٨٠١ - وعلى نحو ما تم التأكيد عليه من جديد بقوة في الفقرة ٥ من قرار الجمعية العامة ٥٠/١٢٠، ينبغي أن تتعزز كفاءة وفعالية وأثر اﻷنشطة التنفيذية التي تضطلع بها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة بزيادة تمويلها بشكل ملموس على أساس يمكن التنبؤ به ومستمر ومضمون، بما يتمشى مع الاحتياجات المطردة للبلدان النامية، إلى جانب التنفيذ الكامل لقراري الجمعية العامة ٤٧/١٩٩ و ٥٠/١٢٠.

15. In order to improve the quality and impact of the operational activities of the United Nations and to promote an integrated approach in this field, this segment shall provide coordination and guidance so as to ensure that the policies formulated by the General Assembly, particularly during the triennial policy review of operational activities, are appropriately implemented on a system-wide basis.
١٥ - من أجل تحسين نوعية وأثر اﻷنشطة التنفيذية التي تضطلع بها اﻷمم المتحدة، وتعزيز اتباع نهج متكامل في هذا الميدان، يتولى هذا الجزء تقديم التنسيق والتوجيه بما يكفل تنفيذ السياسات التي تضعها الجمعية العامة، وبخاصة خلال الاستعراض الذى يجرى كل ثلاث سنوات لسياسة اﻷنشطة التنفيذية، وذلك بالصورة الملائمة على نطاق المنظومة بأكملها.

3. The main responsibility of the Council in the area of development cooperation is to improve the quality and impact of the operational activities of the United Nations, to promote an integrated approach and to ensure that the policy directives formulated by the General Assembly during the triennial policy review of operational activities, are appropriately implemented on a system-wide basis.
٣ - تتمثل مسؤولية المجلس الرئيسية في مجال التعاون اﻹنمائي في تحسين جودة وأثر اﻷنشطة التنفيذية لﻷمم المتحدة، تشجيعا لﻷخذ بنهج متكامل وعملا على أن تجد المبادئ التوجيهية المتعلقة بالسياسات، التي صاغتها الجمعيــة العامــة أثنــاء الاستعــراض الذي يجري كل ثلاث سنوات لسياسات اﻷنشطة التنفيذية، طريقها للتطبيق الصحيح على مستوى المنظومة)٢(.
