The Workshop was co-hosted by the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, and the Pacific Island Forum secretariat.

The Department of Political Affairs, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and UNOMB worked closely on designing the concept of international election observation and its coordination.

In the area of ICT connectivity, the Office had been actively pursuing the possibility of establishing a dedicated satellite communications infrastructure for Pacific island countries through a joint project with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.

During the period under review, OHCHR, the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat continued to work in partnership to support the establishment of national human rights institutions.

3. Welcome the opportunity and availability of UNODC/TPB and the PIFS to provide on-the-ground and sustained support to the Forum Islands countries and observers and, for this purpose, undertake the following types of activities:

Furthermore, during 2006, new partnership arrangements and joint activities were undertaken with a number of organizations, including the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the Pacific Island Forum secretariat.

21. There has been close cooperation between the United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP) and the secretariat of the Pacific Islands Forum in providing legal assistance to States members of the Forum in implementing international drug control conventions.
