On the mandate to discuss, and promote common understanding and effective action on strengthening and broadening national and international institutional efforts and existing mechanisms for the surveillance, detection, diagnosis and combating of infectious diseases affecting humans, animals, and plants, the States Parties recognised that:

18. On the mandate to discuss, and promote common understanding and effective action on the content, promulgation and adoption of codes of conduct for scientists, the States Parties recognised that:

18- وفيما يتعلق بمهمة مناقشة تعزيز وتوسيع نطاق الجهود المؤسسية الوطنية والدولية والآليات المتاحة لمراقبة الأمراض المعدية التي تصيب الإنسان والحيوان والنبات وكشفها وتشخيصها ومكافحتها، والتوصل إلى فهم مشترك واتخاذ إجراءات فعالة بشأن هذه المسألة، أقرت الدول الأطراف بما يلي:

(g) To improve conditions of service by ensuring competitive salaries, adequate allowances to recognize mobility and hardship service conditions and other compensation elements, and by taking effective action on work/life issues in order to attract and retain high-quality, high-performing staff;

(g) To implement conditions of service approved by the General Assembly, and to take effective action on work/life issues in order to attract and retain appropriately qualified, high-performing staff;

The 2008 Meeting of States Parties was mandated by the Sixth Review Conference to " discuss, and promote common understanding and effective action on national, regional and international measures to improve biosafety and biosecurity, including laboratory safety and security of pathogens and toxins " .
