536. In its resolution II/2, on regional activities and coordination, the Conference recalled the importance accorded to regional meetings in paragraph 26 of the Overarching Policy Strategy and requested regional focal points to report to the Conference at its third session on the outcomes of their regional meetings and other regional activities during the intersessional period.

Introducing the issue, the President said that the implementation of the Strategic Approach should be evaluated against regional progress made in attaining the 2020 Johannesburg Plan of Implementation goal, and she invited the regional focal points to report on the outcomes of regional meetings and other regional activities during the intersessional period.

36. In order to provide a regional perspective to the deliberations of the Council, Member States may wish to decide that, in preparation for the annual ministerial reviews, regional meetings should be convened in all five regions to highlight issues of particular concern in those regions and to strengthen the link between country-level operations, regional activities and global-level discussions.
