The questions raised included when and through what modalities Zimbabwean troops would be withdrawn; President Mugabe's recent meeting with President Kagame in Harare; the possible retention by some of the signatories of the military option; and the cooperation of the Government of Zimbabwe with the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and Other Forms of Wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Chairman of the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and Other Forms of Wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mahmoud Kassem, presented the Panel's report (S/2002/1146) to the Security Council at a formal meeting on 24 October.

At the informal consultations of the whole held on 22 January 2001, the members of the Council took up the interim report of the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and Other Forms of Wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (S/2001/49), which was introduced by the Chairperson of the Panel.

The Committee notes the negative impact on children of the armed conflict within the State party's territory and the role of numerous actors in this conflict, including the armed forces of several States all party to the Convention, armed groups and numerous private companies, as cited in a United Nations report on the illegal exploitation of natural resources and Other Forms of Wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

My Government believes that the expert panel should investigate, establish and analyse links between the illegal exploitation of the natural resources and other wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda in violation of its national sovereignty and the continuation of the war of aggression.
وترى حكومتي أنه يتعين على فريق الخبراء القيام باستقصاء وإثبات وتحليل للروابط القائمة بين الاستغلال غير القانوني للموارد الطبيعية والثروات الأخرى لجمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية من جانب بوروندي وأوغندا ورواندا الذي يمثل انتهاكا للسيادة الوطنية للبلد، وبين مواصلة حرب العدوان.

The Committee expressed grave concern at the continued systematic plunder and unlawful exploitation of natural resources and other riches in the occupied part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and demanded the immediate cessation of those practices.
وأعربت اللجنة عن بالغ القلق لاستمرار النهب المنتظم والاستغلال غير المشروع للموارد الطبيعية والثروات الأخرى في الجزء المحتل من جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية، وطالبت بالكف فورا عن تلك الممارسات.
